Susan Smith, MS Ed, Principal, Salah Tawfik Elementary and Middle School
Assalamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmat Allahi wa Barakatu,

 Dear Parents and Students,

 Ramadan Mubarak!

On behalf of the Islamic Foundation of South Florida and the Salah Tawfik Elementary and Middle School board, teaching staff and administration, I am delighted to welcome you to STEMS for the 2011-12 school year. As the former principal of Andalusia School in Yonkers, New York, I have known of IFSF for some time. Its reputation for excellence in education, outreach and community service extends beyond Florida, ma sha Allah, and it is my honor and privilege to join STEMS as the new principal.

Please know that STEMS takes the trust that you place in our school very seriously. It is our Amana to provide your children – our precious students – with a superior well-rounded education. We take pride in our academic core of Science, Technology, English and Math, in addition to our vital and beloved Islamic knowledge.  We are grateful for the opportunity to work with you, your family and the broader community to raise a new generation of confident and caring Muslims, who draw upon Qur’an and Sunnah to achieve academic, vocational, civic and spiritual excellence. It is our intention that every action be for Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala alone; and we ask Him to guide us to that which pleases Him. In addition, we hope to have fun and make friends along the way.

In anticipation of the exciting new school year ahead, please keep in mind the following:

  • School starts Monday, August 22nd. School hours are from 7:55 AM to 1:50 PM during Ramadan. Please drop off and pick up students promptly.
  • We close for Eid Al Fitr and Labor Day Monday, August 29th through Monday, September 5th.
  • School reopens Monday, September 5th, when normal school hours resume from 7:55 AM to 3 PM.
  • STEMS will host “Back to School Night” on Friday, September 16th from 6:30-8:30 PM, in sha Allah.

With best wishes for a Blessed Ramadan and a peaceful, happy and productive academic year, I look forward to meeting you and your children in the coming days, insha'Allah.
